INTRODUCTION TO VOICE COMMAND SYSTEM (VCS)

You are about to embark on a journey into the future.  A future in which we will be able to verbally communicate with domestic robot servants and have them carry out our wishes.  Your VOICE COMMAND SYSTEM and the HERO-I robot will be the vehicle to carry you on your journey.  They will provide you with countless hours of entertainment and perhaps provide you with the means to help make the future happen in our lifetime.

The VOICE COMMAND SYSTEM (VCS) is an advanced level peripheral for HERO-I which utilizes a state-of-the-art voice recognizer (VOREC) and a high level, voice programming language (VOCOL).  VOREC is a microprocessor based, speech recognition board which mounts on top of our MEMCOM Board and communicates with the robot through the serial port on the MEMCOM Board.  Power for the VOREC Board is derived from the robot and the board is activated/de-activated by the robot under software control.  VOCOL comes in two (2) 2K CMOS EPROMS which replace two (2) of the 2K RAM chips on the MEMCOM Board. VOCOL allows you to speak programs into the robot in a manner similar to the way you type programs into a personal computer. VOCOL supports both immediate and deferred execution modes.

This manual is designed to help you get the most out of the VOICE COMMAND SYSTEM.  Please read through it completely before installing and using the equipment.  The next section of the manual (Installation) will show you how to install the VCS and verify that it is correctly installed.  The following section (VOCOL) gives a complete description of the VOice COmmand Language and teaches you how to use it.  The last section (VOREC) will provide you with enough information to allow you to write your own programs for the robot which involve speech input.

We sincerely hope that you enjoy this peripheral as much as we enjoyed creating it. More than once during its creation we were struck with an uncanny feeling that we were creating a living creature. We think you will have similar experiences. Write or call and let us know how you use the equipment and give us suggestions for improving the product.
